God is Faithful

God is faithful. Need I say more?

It satisfies me to know that God’s faithfulness does not depend on me. His faithfulness is rooted in His love. Love is who God is.

Over the past year, I have been learning and I am continuing to learn how to live from God’s love and not for God’s love. His love has already been given to me through Jesus. It’s a beautiful thing. Really it is.

Isn’t it interesting that we know God is faithful, His love is everlasting, we have everything we need in Him, yet somehow we find ourselves in dark mental spaces? If God is so faithful, His love so good, then why do we find ourselves wrestling with God about our lives? It’s quite comical.

My prayer life has changed dramatically over the past few years. I use to pray a lot of selfish slash me prayers. Nowadays, I find myself praying psalms, songs, praises and for God to meet the needs of others. I have taken the focus off myself. I understand my salvation and my walk with God is not just about me but it’s about we, the family of God. However, as I am writing this, I find myself in need.

To be honest, I am quite stumped on how to pray. Years ago, during my dark spaces, during my struggles, in my tough times, I would pray desperately for God to meet me, to strengthen me, to deliver me and to heal me. Nowadays, my thoughts slash prayers are along the lines of, “God, I am going through this storm for a reason, there must be something you want to do. Give me the grace to make it through. Allow me to depend on You and not on my resources.” Could it be that my prayer should be a both and? I don’t know…

What I do know is this: God is faithful. Despite what we are going through, despite our struggles, God’s faithfulness does not change. His view toward us does not change. There is nothing you or I can do to change the love God has for us. No matter how frustrated we may get, knowing this truth should keep us from complaining. May we not become like the Israelites in the wilderness complaining about life after God had freed them from slavery and bondage.

There is this song I’ve been listening to over the past couple of months called Faithfulness. I have been chewing on the lyrics, marinating and allowing them to speak to my life. Check out these words and allow them to enter into your heart.

You’d always been good to me. Always been good to me. Ever since I can remember.

Even when I was far away, Your love came running after me.

Even when I was far away, You were still near me.

Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!

My friend, God’s faithfulness is with us at all times. There is nothing to fear as we move forward. God is working in our lives. He is transforming us and conforming us to look more like Jesus. If that means, we have to struggle, be okay with that. Our faith will be strengthened because His grace is sufficient. His love overflows in our lives as we abide in Him.

God will forever be good. Even when we were far away, His love came running and He was near! Great is His faithfulness!
