“So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the Lord.” 

– 1 Samuel 1:20

God wants to birth something in you and out of you. I believe there is something special and there is something unique inside of each of us that needs to come out for the world to see and take part of. How we get to the place where we can allow God to begin the birthing process is usually the biggest challenge.

I believe the first thing you and I need to do is seek God with a sincere and pure heart. It is in our seeking God, where we can begin to ask Him: God, what do you want to birth through me and out of me? Our request should not be a selfish request. The request should be birthed out of our belief about God; our belief about what we believe God wants to do through our life.

Sometimes in life we do not have what we desire because the Lord has not allowed it in our lives. This doesn’t mean we don’t deserve our desires nor does it mean the Lord does not want us to have. I believe God withholds our desires and things from us so that we can learn to love Him and seek Him with a pure heart.

In the text above, the passage of Scripture is about a woman named Hannah. Hannah was a woman of great sorrow. She could not bare a son because she was barren. The Lord had closed her womb. (1 Samuel 1:6) This caused Hannah to weep and cry out all the more. She sought the Lord and emptied her hurts and all the pains that grieved her heart. We see in 1 Samuel 1 verse 20, Hannah finally bore a son. She goes on to say in the verse: “Because I have asked Him from the Lord.”

I believe there is a message in this short passage of Scripture. It is often said, “from your greatest pain comes your greatest victory.” – Unknown I believe Hannah can attest to this statement. My questions to you are: What is grieving in your heart on today? What is bringing or causing you pain? What is the desire laid upon your heart? What do you need to seek God earnestly for?

There is a lot we can learn and take away from the life of Hannah. Nonetheless, in her grief and sorrow she continued to cry out and seek the Lord. When our heart’s cry is pure and authentic towards the Lord, He hears and He then responds. We may not receive exactly what we are asking God for, but one thing is for sure, the Lord will respond!

My friend, God listening to us is enough to be grateful and thankful for. We can be even the more cheerful because we serve a God that responds. Hallelujah!

I want to encourage you to continue to seek God. Continue to pray. Continue to cry out. You never know when God will grant your heart’s cry and prayer request. You may be one cry and prayer away from the response that you need. Keep pushing!
